The Man Cake

I had a conversation with a friend of mine the other day, who told me that he had really gotten into cake decorating. I told him that no matter what they show on Ace of Cakes, this seems to be as much of a man card violation as being a dude who takes up figure skating. He told me that no, I just hadn't seen his cakes. I'm still inclined to think I'm right, but I ask you, dear reader, what do you think? Can you be an authentic man and be into cake decorating?

Here's his example of a manly cake. Apparently, the big football, the logos, the benches, and the Gatorade buckets are all edible.

Don't forget to cast your vote...

Hmmm, who was just telling me the other day that the world's greatest muscians, artists, chef's (and, yes, cake decorator's) are men. And I don't think person was saying that they were less manly. Now if I could only remember who said that...

I agree with your wife, Joe. Some of the world's best artists and chefs are men. Cake decorating is no different than sculpting . . . it is just edible. My younger brother is a professional chef and is 100% testosterone 100% of the time. He is actually back packing in the mountains right now . . . camping, hunting and fishing for 2 weeks. Sounds pretty manly to me.

*adjusts his monocle* Ahem! I quote from an ancient treatise on this very contentious subject, to wit:

"Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker MAN, bake me a cake as fast as you can. Pat it and bake it and mark it with a "B" and there will be plenty for baby and me."

This source, which is nearly universal in familiarity throughout English-speaking societies, clearly confirms a masculine role in the afore-mentioned "pat-a-cake."

Then, too, we may quote the supplementary texts :"Simple Simon met a pie-MAN, going to the fair . . ." and, indeed, "Rub-a-dub, dub, three MEN in a tub. And who 'dye think they be? The butcher, the baker, the candle-stick maker -- turn them out, knaves all three!"

(Upon second thought, this last may not, in fact, be a sound example of masculine aptitude as it applies to the baker's art. Let him who readeth understand.)

It seems we may safely infer that (at least in Western culture, this author couldn't be bothered to come up with any ancient male-cake-baking haiku) not only the creation, but the subsequent decoration of all manner of baked comestibles lies fully within the purview of the manly domain.

(Oh look! I found a haiku after all!)

"Men can make fine cakes
Except when made from concrete
or Rutabegas."

What? Ok, PROVE I just made that one up! :D

while the cake is impressive if he would have showed up and told me he made that i would have laughed hysterically. and yes questioned his authentic-ness.
